Homemade Lapsteel

This was once a mahogony shelf? A shame to waste a good piece of wood I thought!

baretta
Are the strings going over a simple dowel rod in front and back?

Sweet baretta,
My second love is woodworking, and I agree...to much nice wood being tossed nowadays.

baretta,

That's a nice piece of work. Seems to exemplify the whole lets keep it simple, yet effective method.

I'm not a master craftsman but a fair hand with a piece of wood. Any chance you could tell us about the electronics? I'm already mentally hunting my woodpile up in the barn! I know I've got a piece of ash that would work perfectly in there somewhere.....

Yes they are, it's really basic design but works well.

Yes I am, that's what I meant earlier when I said it was "the bane of my life". Not so bad these days as the guitars are a bit easier to get, but in the early days it was a nightmare having to play electrics with all the controls upside down. I was forever turning everything off with my arm. Now they are easier to get I don't need to buy one (typical!!)

It's just a bog standard 2 pickup wiring system. Just like a Telecaster, one volume, one tone. The switches are like the normal 3 way, on/off or both together. They are just on a slider instead. It was the only thing on hand at the time. One pickup would work just as well though. If you go onto Google and type in "Build Your Own Lapsteel" there are several links to some nice simple designs with all the diagrams. Hope that helps?
