  Sixteen-Twenty-Five -- extended version

This is the extended version of the online lesson I did recently. I wrote the short version, put the lesson together, and found myself playing it over and over and coming up with other parts for it, eventually winding up with this arrangement. I played a self duet with an electric slide part and decided to tab the acoustic part out for a master lesson.

Please note that the only movie included in the download is the one you see here and that I didn't do the animated fretboard for this. The PDF includes the tab, notation, midi files to practice to (full and half speed), the GuitarPro file (which will give you the GP animated fretboard) and the Mp3.

Here is the short version: Sixteen Twenty Five ... read the commentary there for a bit of an insight on the theory and execution.

Here is the self duet at YouTube: YouTube - Sixteen Twenty-five - acoustic and slide guitar duet ... it'll give you an idea of the melodic possibilities for the progression.

This one really is a lot of fun to play once you get it down. Those open strings that keep popping into play keep a wonderful ringing going on throughout and are very good for disciplining those picking fingers. They tend to rebel at first as it's unusual to move to a lower note on a higher string. The more you do it, of course, the more independence they will acquire, which is always a good thing.

I'm also the author of PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book. The lesson that this book, slide-rule and DVD teach is the most powerful of all: the 'trick' to seeing the entire fretboard as friendly, familiar territory. If you're beyond the beginner stage -- you know your chords, scales, maybe even modes -- but you're still wondering how to turn it all into music, how to invent and improvise, how to access all the bits and pieces, then this is the book for you. You will also be able to join the private PlaneTalkers' Forum and discuss the simple visualization technique with me and many others. - Read more here .

Testimonials

A fresh and new approach to helping young and old have a better understanding of music and the guitar. Well done Kirk.
