Ive always loved the sound of the guitar
Yep, I have always loved the sound of the guitar. When I was 17 I attempted playing briefly, with $15/half-hour lessons, on an Epiphone FR-150 I bought in 1976(still have and play it), but then joined the US Navy for 22 yrs. And now that I'm retired I was inspired to try again by a Clint Eastwood tune, "Claudia's Theme," which he wrote for "The Unforgiven." I still love that tune and have learned part of it; simple tune, but hard in that it requires a lot of feeling on the part of the player. Anyway, in the past three years, I've went through the "Guitar for Dummies" book cover to cover. And am still working through the Christopher Parkening Classical method Vol I. And am presently working on two Keith Wyatt "Beyond the Basics" Blues method books. I bounce around a lot (hey, I said I love the sound of the guitar, no matter the style)looking for that something to click. And thanks to Kirks "PlaneTalk," A really informative/enlightening book/DVD, I'm finally starting to be able to figure-out that complicated fretboard. I've been here on this site for a while, and have benefited from it greatly. Kirks ability at describing his Art to novices such as I is commendable. Thanks a bunch Kirk.

Allthumbs,
I don't think so. I've been just as shy there as here. I usually browse around for tips and answers to my questions, which you guys always seem to have, and then grab the fretboard again. I seem to have to work at it more than most, but I love it.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
