Old timer
Hi,
Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I stumbled upon this site and I'm hoping I may learn a few things. I've been struggling with the guitar for years. Picking it up and putting it down. Trying to make a go of it before I run out of time. Patience is my problem. I like most people I would imagine just want to pick it up and play something. I know many riffs from this song and that. I have dozen of books which I find to be useless for the most part. I think maybe if I would just stick to a song and learn to play it through maybe I could actually get some satisfaction for all the effort. Instead of getting flustrated and just giving it up for another couple of months. Anyway, just wanted to say hi.
Dave

Hey Dave,
Glad to see you here. You don't mention the genre of guitar playing you're doing or would like to do. I'd like to know.
But from the "For what it's Worth Dept."
Forget the books. Put away all those pieces of riffs. Drop the dead weight.
What's your favorite tune? Learn to play it. It doesn't matter if it's and electric piece or acoustic. Do you sing? Can't carry a tune in a bucket? Doesn't matter. Lets go learn a tune.
Need some help with it? Ask your questions here. I guarantee you get an ample answer.
Les

Hi again,
Wow, thanks for the warm welcome. It's nice to find a place with friendly people. Well, I have put away the books and just started to pick up the guitar everyday. Play as much as I can. As far as what I like, well. I guess you could say folk rock mostly. A very wide range. I've always liked Neil Young, CSNY, Eric Clapton, David Gilmore, etc. I think my favorite song to learn would be Cowgirl in the Sand, the Acoustic version off of 4 way street. However, I have always felt that one to be a little to tough to start off with.
So the only song I really can play through is "wish you were here". I think my biggest problem is the C chord. Sad part is, almost every song ever written has the C chord in it. LOL. But its getting better. The more I play the easier it gets. I have a couple of nice guitars to play with. Not expensive guitars but they sound nice and I take care of them. I have a FG 413S Yamaha Acoustic that has beautiful sustain. I also have 2 electric guitars Yamaha Pacifica and my most recent purchase is a LINE 6 Variax 300 modeling guitar. It really has reignited my interests in playing.
So I keep trying. I think the hardest part for me is time. Although I am starting to just make the time. I've been told I sing quite well, I am continually asked to do Bruce Springsteen for all my friends. I guess its the deep raspy voice. Anyway thats some of the stuff I'm into. I will get there someday. Thanks so much to everyone once again for the great welcome. I look forward to talking to you all in the future.
