Everybody has a hard time with bar chords when they start. It is a rite of passage.

Now I don't feel so bad. I'de always wanted to play guitar but thought it was too tough. It is tough but I'm also having a blast. It's been two years, I'm not naturally talented, just stubbornly persistent. Barre cords are still one of my biggest problems.
Songs seem to flow pretty well with most open chords then up comes Bm or something similar and I can't get my fingers set right. Everybody I talk to says it will come with time so I just keep on. I started out by practicing F as a barre cord, it helped with the barre part of it. Have fun, good luck

I played for a while when I was in my 20s...and picked it up again at age 55. Like everyone else is saying, the barre chords will come with practice.

Hi drichard. Welcome to the friendliest site online! Everybody has said it so it must be true, barre chords will come in time. Very soon, with practice, you will wonder what the fuss was about and chuckle when someone says they are having difficulties with barre chords. Have fun racking your fingers.
keep passing the open windows....

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
