Intro
I came on to the site tonight to look at the latest lessons.... but was greeted with an invitation to post an introduction, so here goes.
I used to play guitar in my teens, back in the '60's when 3 chords sufficed for most songs, throw in the relevant minor chord and you were a maesto! Self-taught (couldn't afford lessons), I never really progressed beyond playing chords and a few Shadows instrumentals. Family and sporting commitments led to the demise of my playing for about 30 years. Playing was limited to strumming my acoustic guitar about twice a year.
When my younger brother had a big 50th birthday party about 5 years ago, and knowing a lot of the band members who were playing that night, I thought it would be fun to jump up on stage and play along with a bit of rock'n'Roll and 12-bar blues, which I did, with a new (for the first time) electric guitar.
Since then I have had (briefly) lessons from 3 different teachers in 3 different countries, in 3 different styles of playing, but am still mainly self-taught, or web-taught.
I have been invited to join my musician friends in Zermatt, Switzerland on my skiing trips there, and they formed a great band to play at my 60th birthday in September this year. Needless to say, I was playing that weekend, too!
I'm working in Lagos, Nigeria now, learning a few classical pieces on acoustic for my own enjoyment, and building up a repetoire of songs to play with my friends in Zermatt when I get the chance to visit.
That's more than enough for an intro, I think, more like intro, verse, chorus and bridge all in one.
I really enjoy this site, and hope to become a more active member when I have something to contribute.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
