Wet behind the ears, green as grass...

Hi everyone. I just got my first guitar today. At 40, I decided it's time to learn to play guitar, something I've wanted to do since I was six. I'm still waiting for my instructional DVDs to come, so I've been perusing this site and others for beginners' tips. I will probably take some actual lessons, too. Anyway, I'm excited to get started!

Welcome aurora, to the WWOT (Wonderful World Of Twanging).

Taking at least some one-on-one lessons is a good thing to get the basics down. There's nothing like being right there in the same room with someone who knows. The Internet is full to the rafters of good guitar info ... this site is the best, of course, so keep coming back, and feel free to ask any questions.

aurora,

Congrats on taking the plunge. I didn't start playing guitar until 11 years ago (33 yrs old at the time) so I understand the desire to learn a bit later in life than many folks do. This is a great site to start with. Here are some links to my website where I have tried to collect information for beginning guitar players. Hope it helps

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
