New to this forum

Hi everyone:

Well, Kirk made me do it. Now I have to join in order to keep getting the free lessons.

I've played guitar since I was fourteen, and learned on my own. My parents could always find me if they wondered where I was when I was not doing my chores: I was in my room, trying to get those hard chords of G, C and D. I'm now 52, and I am learning again. In the meantime, I've been in a gospel group, playing the guitar as the only instrument that the group used, when I was in my late teens and early twenties ( so I managed to finally get those chords ), played for my kids since then, and now that they've outgrown me, I am learning all over again.

I have two Yamahas. One is an original red tag, and the other is less than ten years newer. I've learned a lot from Kirk. I finally managed to master "Alice's Restaurant", and am using Kirk's arrangement of "Amazing Grace", with a few of my own twists. I'm loving my re-new-found talent, working on finger pickings of "Sunrise, Sunset", "Beautiful Dreamer", and some others, all along the same lines as Kirk's lessons. Thanks so much, Kirk. But I think I've outgrown my Yamahas. I can't do on those narrow necks what I want. I once tried out a Larrivee, and found that I could do things that I could not do on my Yamahas. Now I am smitten, but can't afford one. But, hey, all I do with it is sing along with friends and entertain myself. What more do I need than that?

Anyways, just thought I'd intro myself just so you know who's peeking in from time to time. Thanks again, Kirk; many thanks.

John

HI, my name is Matt.
I started guitar about 5 months ago because I thought I should learn something productive that would not only improve people's image of me, but help raise my self-esteem. Its worked sorta, just that Im a very frustrating learner.
I love all types of Rock, and some Blues too. Im more into rock because i like the Flush of energy and power I feel when listening to it. I would like nothing more than to get better at playing guitar. I own a Silvertone, but am working on an ESP or Jackson.

Hey Matt, welcome.

This is a good place to have found. There's a ton of info in the main site, and some great players here able and willing to answer any questions. What we do here is stoke the enthusiasm.

You're going to find that quite apart from the self esteem and respect, music itself is the reward. You're tapping back into the Cosmos when you make music ... silly as that may sound.
