Hello Everyone :)

Hello

I don't know why forums make me nervous?

Anyway, .... I am Glad to be a participating member of this site.

I haven't played in 38 years so I am at that age where time seems to go faster and arthritis becomes a daily companion.

I had an urge back in January 2006 and I followed the "urge" right out and came home with a new Fender Strat, Cry-Baby Pedal, 10 watt amp, a hand full of picks .... I had a $2.00 mic at home that came with some other electronic equipment.
To heck with aging, I decided I wanted to return to something I have always loved.

Back in the 60s I play in a band. (Blues, R&B, Soul). Played a fair bit in Yorkville, Toronto, Canada. We did okay as a 7 piece band (horns and all). I did alright as the lead guitarist, seeing that I only learnt, like others around me, from 45 rpm records. Never wrote my own music ... always played other musician's music.

That was then, this is now.

I am so glad to be here. I am experimenting, learning new things, filling the gap that exists from not taking any formal lessons. There are a lot of talented members here. I am sure to learn great things here. (My mother had high expectations of me, that's why I've continued throughout my life shooting high.)

It was running into a tune called "Tropical Low" by Kirk Lorange ... and then seeing his tune "Blue Moor" up at #5 at soundclick.com ... and here my humble little tune "Epiolgue for Love Lost and Found" was sitting at #7 ... I read Kirks main page and came directly here. If you want to be succesful ... hang around successful people.

Old saying: "Can't fly with the eagles if we keep walking with turkeys."

Nice to be flying here with Eagles

Regards

John Hoita (jhoita)

PS Looking forward to you reviewing my tunes.
I have a personal site as well (http://johnhoita.com) that gives more of a Bio on yours truly, Stats from sounclick.com regarding my tunes ... and a link back to here ... Guitar for Beginners and Beyond.

Official welcome, John.

I remember Yorkville in the 60's. I spent my late teens/early 20s in Montreal, but we used to make the trip down the 401 regularly to Toronto to check out Yorkville. It's all a bit of a blur to me now, of course. I cut my teeth in the "Sir Winston Churchill Pub" on Crescent St, Montreal ... started my professional playing career there, sitting in the back playing figerstyle renditions of Beatles songs ... I had my own arrangement of the entire side of the Sgt Peppers album, where all the tunes segue into each other. That would have been 1969 or so ... many moons ago. Many notes ago!

1969 Those were the days.
Just bought a 1969 GTO convertible, canary yellow, white interior, bucket seats ... what a car. Sold that also with my 1957 telecaster. Yep! Those were the days.

You where in Montreal heading in one direction, I was putting down my guitar and headed in another direction.

They say that if you remember the Yorkville days ... you weren't really there.

Thanks for the welcome and the sharing and bringing back memories.

John

My grandmother taught me: "We are all broken in different places and at different times. The best we can do is ... those of us who are broken less ... simply help those who are broken more.'

We are both at a Great site and we all learn from each other here.

Ask Clancy, she has alreay picked me up and pushed me back into the tree on several occasions.

Good luck and "Go for it!"
