Uh....

Hey guys I'm Scott from Oklahoma. I always wanted to play but never had the opportunity until I traded an alto sax for a guitar and practice amp. I'm completely lost on all the terminology but hopefully I can pick up some here! I'm open to any advice so BRING IT ON!

Welcome scott, Hope you got a decent guitar and amp, when you traded in your alto sax.

If you are truly a beginner, think simple first. Dont try to learn Stairway to Heaven. You MUST learn chords and keys first and THEN when you want to play something fancy later, it will come easy to you. So think 3 chords to a Key, and relax with the fact that chords overlap, or are common to, several of the keys. THere is a chord of A not only in the KEY of A, but in the key of E, and in the Key of D, for example. You'll only have to learn about 11 chords to be a complete player. About 7 majors and 4 minors.
So learn how to play Tom Dooley in each key. The key of A has an A, a D and an E chord. The whole song only uses two of those chords. (A and E). Strum smoothly, play the song for 3 days. Play it in the key of D by playing a D and an A chord, strum smoothly for 2 days.
NOw venture out. Play something like Michael Row the Boat Ashore or Kumbaya (ugh) or Go Tell Aunt Rhody by using all 3 chords in the key you have picked.
YOu are now a guitar player. Thousands, millions of songs require only 3 chords. Have fun. Know that you will probably NEVER play these songs again, but they are important at this stage to understand chording and music.

Thats some good recommendations there for song choice learning, really simple chord structure, wish I'd known those songs when I was learning chords.
