Volume 1 Number 1

Every once in a while in my travels around the Internet I come across a site that is a real gem. This site appears to be one of those. I have been playing the guitar, or playing at the guitar, on and off for 30 of my 46 years. In that time it has been on occasion a frustrating challenge and an exhilarating sense of accomplishment.
After a recent long hiatus from playing I have started playing again with the help of the lessons on this site. If there is one thing I have learned over the years is that you can learn more in an hour by playing with and listening to other people than a year of noodling by yourself.. I think that is true in a virtual sense as well.
If one surrounds himself with talented, artistic and intelligent people, it is hard not to succeed.

My goals for the guitar / music:
-Improve my fingering skills and knowledge of the fretboard
-learn more theory and learn to read music beyond TAB
-Learn to sing and play at the same time
-compose a song
-try to play with more people even if it takes me beyond my comfort zone.
-build my own mandolin
-learn to play the mandolin

On a side note my 16yo son has been taking lessons for a few years now and we are to the point where we can play a little blues and jazz together. I play rhythm and he plays some lead. To a fathers ears it's the sweetest music ever made.

Thanks for listening,
John

Hello John

Welcome along mate! BTW, it's good to have goals and that's quite evident in your post.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
