Draygers (Hello and question inside)

I've been looking around this site for maybe a month and half now. I don't have a guitar yet, but I hope to be getting one soon and start using Kirk's lessons. I have a lot of free time and I mean a lot, so I fully intend to work my butt off.

If you have time please read the following and maybe help out with my final decision.

I don't much money to spend so I just want to try to get the most for my cash. I narrowed my search down to two guitars though.

Silverstone SD-50 $140 New
Full Size Steel String Dreadnought
Natural Solid Sitka Spruce Top
Striped Mahogany Back & Sides
Abalone Type Sound Hole Rosette
Snow Flake Fingerboard Inlay
Bound Rosewood Fingerboard & Bridge
Gold Precision Grover Tuning Machines

Fender DG21S$109 Used
Dreadnought
Solid Spruce Top
Back & Sides Laminated Rosewood
Fingerboard Rosewood
Machine Heads Chrome die cast

I don't know. I think I did a good job of picking out two guitars in my price range, but I'm not entirely sure. Hopefully my research payed off. If I get the Fender I will probably try to get D'addario EXP strings and Grover tuners since they seem to be highly recommended.

Thanks for any welcomes or suggestions.

Any particular reason your looking at dreads? They are primarily a stand up strumming guitar. For Kirks finger picking lessons, a folk guitar would be better.

They are just what I can seem to find. The guitar store I visited seemed to only have dreadnoughts in my price range. Well they had I think one that was slightly smaller, but the coloring gave me a headache.

I looked at some reviews for you. The fender is the better bang for the buck. They are in the 300 + dollar range new. That silverstone is sold as part of a beginners pack. Always be wary of starter packs. They can be poor quality since new players don't know what to look for.
Here is a review for the fender

Hello Draygers. I agree with allthumbs, in general, the fender should be better.

I went to go pick up the Fender today, but of course I misread the tag and it was $189 not $109. It comes with a hardshell case, so I asked the guy if he could exclude that from the price. It went down to $165, $32 (including tax) more than I currently have. I might get it tomorrow.

Thanks for the welcomes.

I have a fender acoustic, I love her of course and the tone is nice for the money its a GA model but she sounds ok both strumed and when I feel like it finger picked.

If you can pay the few dollars more and you will have a nice intermediate guitar instead of a newbie one. Its well worth the slight investment!

Just letting you guys know I got the Fender. My brother spent $30 dollars on it and he said $20 of it was a birthday present. It is a beautiful guitar.

Once again thanks for the welcomes.
