New and not sore now!
Hi all from Maryland. It's great to have found this site and forum. I came across it yesterday and have learned a whole lot already. At age 46, I am a total newbie to guitar playing.
My Dad gave my daughter a guitar to learn how play a while back. She barely picked it up, so two weeks ago I made my mind up to finally learn how to play and "borrowed" it for a while. I realized after a day or so why she stopped. My fingers have been sore to the touch for the last two weeks or so. But the good news is they're not hurting now (maybe a slight sting - but not much) and I can play longer (or at least attempt to play). The bad news is I might have to borrow the guitar a little longer
Looking forward to learning as much as I can from this site, it looks great!

Poorwayne ... welcome to the sore fingers club. It will soon pass and then the bad news is that you will feel the need to go out and buy your very own guitar(s). Nice to have you with us.

Weclome Wayne! After only about 2 weeks for me, my fingers hurt just a little bit! I need to get them to stretch though so I can play some of the other chords! Welcome to the group, great people and great information!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
