hello to the site

been playing about a year. I mainly play an acoustic, which I found at the local rubbish pit. Spent about $100 OZ fixing it up, and I have found a new and wonderful friend in this old Samick guitar. i am a young 62 years, and a few old timers like myself have started a little band. We play mainly old classics, which consist of 3 or 4 chords. Most of our gigs are at retirement villages, and all our audiences are very enthusiastic. Basically they can't get away. Looking forward to learning from some top guns on this site. Wallym

  Old Guitar from Tip

Its the truth. The guitar was in a pile of junk that looked like it was from a student that had just finished his degree. There was all these books in a pile and just underneath was this guitar, no strings and abit of a hole in the body. The tech did a pretty good job for the price. Now all I have to do, is make the thing sound good. Cheers

Hi Wally. Glad you found a guitar and audience in such short order. Hopefully some of the lessons here will fit your audience demographic so you can maximize your tips and increase beer consumption. Just kidding.

Welcome, Wally. I'm new to the forum also, but I know will find it to be a friendly place as I already have.

Hi Wally. I have a great classical guitar that i brought at a yard sale for 2 dollars. it was missing the frets and had been sprayed painted black. i took a chance that it might clean up well. it was a great guitar - kid wanted an electric so he painted it and then ripped the frets off. still have it.

How do you end up with 1 million dollars playing jazz? start with 2 million.

Hi Wallyn - Acoustic player here to, been playing about as long but still have trouble playing in front of anyone. I think I'd have trouble even if they couldn't run(or roll) away.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
