New guy!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, everyone. I am glad to be here, this seems like a very cool site and forum. I have been playing seriously and religously for 2 months now and am a bit stumped, so I thought I would join a forum and get some advice from some excellant guitarists, such as yourselves. Any tips?

Well, I have learned a few easy songs such as wanted dead or alive, mama i'm comin home, wish you were here, 316, and a few other intros. I have learned all the basic major and minor open chords, a couple scales, and now am working on bar chords, but I am getting tired of playing the same things over and over. Where do I go from here? Any suggestions?

Most important is to have fun, do the learing too but take pleanty of time to fiddle around with what you learned, experiment.

Try out different strumming patterns and different chord progressions, appregios too. For me my favorite thing to do is solo, so if you have means to record then play over it i highly recommend soloing. it sounds like you have a solid foundation so put it to full use!

Try Kirks finger picking lessons. They can be challenging and the info with them will give you a better grasp of how it all works if you are interested in writing your own tunes.

At the end of the seventies, I went for lessons but then other things occupied my mind and priorities.
Towards the end of the eighties, I wanted to get into guitar playing more seriously and tried different guitar teachers until I finally found someone who I felt I was progressing with in leaps and bounds.
She was a classical guitar teacher and she really helped me in terms of using my fingers (which has helped me with fingerstyle)
Unfortunately, she moved to another state and I never went to a teacher after that. I basically picked it up myself from that point.

When I found GFB&B, I felt I'd stumbled on to something that was really going to help me with my playing etc. Kirk's tabbed songs and videos have been a teriffic boost for me, and since getting Plane Talk it's been like the "icing on the cake"

SO, to cut a long story short, I've been playing on and off seriously for about 17 years.

Sorry if I raved on too much. BUT, that's me!

Hi beginner4years. Your handle describes many of us on this site.

There is a wealth of information here. Maybe you could try your hand at some backing tracks, many of which you will find in the members recordings? For me, the idea of being able to play along with a BT, then upload it to the forum and get advice and constructive criticism on your efforts has totally revived my interest in playing guitar. Nobody here will abuse you or laugh at your efforts. There are some very talented and dedicated musicians on this site as well as amatuer bedroom strummers like me, so feel free to join in. The limit to what you can do on this site is really only dependant upon your own committment and the amount of time you have. Welcome aboard.
