New Guy, Trying to learn
Howdy all, thought I'd drop a quick introduction to let y'all know a bit about me, and why I'm here.
Obviously I'm here for guitars, I'm trying to learn how to play the instrument. My father passed away when I was in my mid-teens, but I remember him playing the guitar when I was younger, and it always sounded great. Well now that I'm an adult (or somewhat.. heh, still a kid at heart of course), I've had that voice in the back of my head.
Well a month ago I went home and found my father's old acoustic guitar in the attic. With the help of a friend (who knows what he is doing) I have restrung it, tuned it, and am trying to learn how to play (my fingertips are already sore and it almost hurts to type this... but I gotta question)
The guitar is a unknown year Aria model number 9420
Well, quite often while trying to learn these chords, my 2nd E string (1st) and B string (2nd) give a harsh rattle that sounds like it is coming from the bridge/saddle area.
What I'm wondering is if this guitar is perhaps too old and has lost its ability to be played properly anymore, or if this is a common issue that can be fixed with a trip down to the music store?
Thank you for any help,
Charlie

Might just need a new saddle or bridge. Take it in to the shop. If it is a simple fix or the guitar has sentimental value than go for it.

BTW. I took a quick look. Aria's run between 100 to 300 bucks so factor that in to repair costs.

probably just an adjustment
Hopefully it is just an adjustment to the neck or bridge. It's amazing what someone that knows what they are doing can do to a guitar. most guitar shops can do this type of adjustment
good luck with your playing

value
it's the sentimental ones that count. Like most guitar players, i have many guitars (28 as of today and i am sure that others here have me beat). Someone recently asked me which one i would grab in a fire if i could only take one - it would be my first guitar which is on a stand in my den. It has no monitary value at all but i could never replace it.

Thanks all for the greetings and welcomes, as well as the advice. On one good note, I know it's not completely me. I picked up my buddies guitar about an hour ago and the chords that sound horrible on my guitar sounded as smooth as butter on his.. so it's that little boost that at least lets me know it isn't me with the problem.

Hello all. I'm new to this web site. I had a blast on the threads for Royal Caribbean when I went on a cruise last year and thought I try again here.
I don't know which thread to ask this question; so I thought I'd start here. Sorry if this question has been asked on another thread.
I loved Kirk's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and would like to get the sheet music for this version. Where can I buy the sheet music?
By the way- CharlieBoy - I see you're from Virginia. Me too - where about's are you?

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
