Hi all.

Played for the first time last year, the music teacher at a school I was working at did some after school classes. Learned the intro to The Standells "Love That Dirty Water".

Anyways, going to start taking some lessons, but I'm impatient! People tell me to learn the notes first, then others say, no learn tablature, and othrs say no learn chords first!
I guess if I could get back to playing that Standell intro that would be cool. I'm a big Dylan fan (easy to play I'm told) and a huge Mark Knopfler fan (not so easy I am told!)

I'm enjoying it, practicing, and just found this awesome site! Great stuff people!

Tabs have the advantage of getting you playing fast as do learning chords. Learning the notes , while important, would not be the main focus of somebody below a certain skill level. It depends on your short and long term goals which areas you want to focus on.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
