  All warm inside now

thanks for the replies. Although I must admit it is all a bit daunting. Especially looking at the posts. You guys are Gods and Godesses. I don't even know what kind of guitar I have except it has strings - 6 I think and it must have something wrong with it because at the moment when I pick it up it makes the most horrendous screeching and twanging noises. Maybe it is sick - is their a guitar hospital forum?

However, I will persever and read everything here and practise every night.

thanks again

Heh, you just gotta pick out the posts that are helpful/relevant/amusing to yourself...and if you can't find what's needed -Start a thread . As AT suggested, check the lessons out and most importantly, enjoy yourself!

Hi and welcome Rosieslot ... first let me thank you for your generosity! I almost fell over this morning when I opened my email. We sure do appreciate it.

The site is packed with guitar info; may I suggest using the search function in the blue navigation bar above for anything specific you're looking for. Our other speciality is inspiration.

Thanks again!

  Tuning Disaster

I bought one of those electronic tuning thingies. It looked cool. I tried to use it last night because my practice is going well but the strings just didn't sound right. I read music and can sing a bit and play the piano so I know what the notes are supposed to sound like. At first I though ok hum it girl and tune it to that, then check it with the little diamond thingy.

Argh...........Either I am tone deaf, technologically challenged or just an idiot. I have the section from the forum on tuning and it is very good. I just need to find a note to start and what I do with the tuning gismo. I am an engineer and this is totally embarassing

I gave up and had a glass of wine instead.

Hi Rosieslot.

You should just be able to twang one string at time and the device should tell you if it's flat or sharp of the note it should be.

Try your A string ... the second thickest. Pluck it and see what the read out is ... if it's lower than A, it should show you G, or F or E ... tune it up until the A lights up then fine tune it with the needle or arrows or whatever you tuner uses. If it's higher, like a Bb or B, tune it down until the needle/lights for 'A' kick in.

What kind of tuner is it? Make and model number?
