Esteban Guitar
Greeting to all from Queenmel:
Any opinions on the Esteban guitars? I recently purchased the cutaway steel string. Being a beginner, I am not sure why I am having so much difficulty playing this guitar. I think the action is set high and that is the problem. I cannot go any further in my lessons because I cannot suceed in playing a clean E chord. I have to push extremly hard and when doing so, aside from the fact of it causing serious pain, it makes me hit other strings. Any suggestions. Should I send it back and buy something else?

If you are able to send it back,IMHO, you should. There is a great deal of controversy about the quality of those guitars.
Tell us your price range, style you want to play in and country your from and we can give you an idea of what would be some good choices.

Yes! Send it back as fast as you can! Sorry to say, but those guitars are the poorest quality you can get. They hype them really good on HSN, but they are no good. Go to your local music store, or a couple if you can, and play alot of guitars. You will find the one that feels good to you.

I am from Pittsburgh, PA. I would want to spend maybe around $300 dollars at the most. I payed $223 for the Esteban package. I want just an acoustic guitar that is not that big in size for me to play and learn with. I am 5 foot 2" and 95lbs. So I would certainly not want something too big. Is that why this guitar is hard for me? I read that the action is high on them. Should I get low action guitar? Please give me some advice

I am from Pittsburgh, PA. I spent $223 on the esteban guitar so I would probably say no more than $300.00. I want an acoustic guitar that is easy to play. Not too big as I am small (5'2" and 95lbs) Do you think I am having difficulty because the action is too high and the guitar is a hard type to play? Need Some advice. Which guitar would suit me?

Once again, go play some guitars. It's that easy. Every person is different, just like every guitar is different, so it's all up to personal taste. A guitar I love, you may hate. For $300.00 you should be able to find a nice guitar, and I'm sure the Pittsburg area has alot of guitar stores with staff that can help you. Sorry if you don't like the advice, but basically you can't buy a guitar without playing it 1st. If you want me to tell you go buy an Ibanez, or Yamaha, or Seagull, etc., sorry, I can't, because like I said, it's all up to personal taste. Do send that Estaban guitar back though.
Also, reposting your same question isn't going to get you answers quicker, it'll just look silly. I'm just trying to offer you advice, take it or leave it.

Thank you for your advice. Please be patient with me as I am new to this site and learning. I will definitely try some guitars out. The pittsburgh area does have alot to choose from music stores.

Washburns, Alveres, blueridge some epiphones. You want to get a folk guitar. It is smaller bodied than a dread or concert. It is also good for both picking and strumming. Go to Musicians Friend and see what you can find in your price range. Read the reviews and then go to the local music store and try to play what you have seen on the site and compare prices. Tanglewood or Oscar Shmitt too would fall in your price range.

No problem. Good luck on your search. Once you find the right one, you'll know it. It'll just feel right.

Estaban guitars have the worst reputation I've ever heard. My advice? Run away! Run away!

Go to Guitar Center and check out the Epophone AJ200SCE, I like the sound and action on these and they are 299.00 . I was going to get one myself but the sales guy had me play with a Breedlove AD20SM and I fell for it. Twice the money but worth it.
GC has a sale going on this weekend also so you may want to swing in there today. BTW, they also offer 12 mo. no payments/finance on 399.00 purchase or more, this is how I'm getting the Breedlove. Don't get it online like I did, you have to wait to get the card to use it. If you go to the store today you can get it as instant financing.

wow, I left another guitar forum because people there were rude to newbies, and came here because I thought people here were more helpful and tolereant. I don't want to get in a flame war here, but personally I think this response looks much sillier, not to mention rude, than someone apparently double posting by accident.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
