Hey You Know You Want To Read This Post

Hello Nice to Meet All Of You, my name is Austin obviously, i'm 17. I just wanted to say Hi. I've actually just now started playing guitar. Im really interested. Ive been practicing chords. I am just developing base skills right now trying to move from chord to chord, and memorize new chords. I've been working on House of the Rising Sun. I have been using a pick and I am definetely getting close to something but I can't quite get that base line sound i'm looking for. I have basically got the C, D, E, E7, Am, and F down however it just sounds better when plucked. Unfortunetely I don't understand plucking. Fortunetly I can play the chords. The F chord is fairly tough. Basically I have some understanding on it. I'm not really taking lessons yet. If someone could explain some stuff to me I would appreciate it very much. I am very new to this like I said. So if you do let me know something I may not understand what your trying to say but, I will try to understand so please dont get frustrated. Just give me a heads up thanks.

-Austin

Welcome Austin. With a name like yours, you should do well as a twanger! Feel free to ask any questions at all, that's what the forum is here for. Have a good browse through the rest of the site too. There's a whole lot of info there ... I know ... I put it all there!

hi Austin. It took me a while to start getting finger picking. I played with a pick for a long time. The hardest part for me is getting the bass line to sound crisp without a pick. I finally bit the bullet and grew my nails which helped a lot. Also with fingerpicking I have found that I have to change my strings much more often since I don't have the pick to compensate for the strings getting dull. There are players of all levels here so between Kirk and the rest of us, we should be able to give you any info you need.

Fingernails and Plectrums tend to make the sound a bit more crisp.

I hower dont tend to grow my fingernails too much since the strings tend to wear a v shaped groove into my index fingernail.

Guitar: 1) Behringer Stratocaster; Webstrings Memphis Electric Xlight strings; Dunlop Picks

2) Ibanez TCY-10 Talman Series; Elixir Light strings.
