electric sound is easy, look for power chords online , distort then rock, it's awful but good fun, go, go, go.

Too right for a quick fix learn smoke on the water and eye of tiger, loads of distortion to hide the slightly off cords until you get the hang of them.
Only started playing this weekend on the electric after playing acoustic for 6 months but had great fun, its very different and a different satisfaction but I do prefer acoustic.
When you feel more adventurous move onto Seven Nation Army and some Nirvana smells like team spirit and really rock!
As for books I use the Complete rock guitarist DVD with Peter Finlay, its gets you playing straight away and you learn some great songs / riffs in the process.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
