Hi from another Newbie! Great site/great people
HI from Tom in Texas. I just recently bought a Epiphone Les Paul for my first guitar.
I've been reading the posts on this site for a little while now and am always amazed at what great people are on this site and how much they like supporting each other.
I've been using Kirks begginer lessons and they are helping alot. I just never realized what fat finger tips I have. Talk about deadening neighboring strings. It's getting better the more I play. Will it get better as my fingers get more calloused or are the two related at all? Any tips in this area as well as proper positioning or form with a Les Paul style guitar. I have a tendency to lean my fingers instead of coming straight down on the strings which doesn't help with the "fat finger syndrome".

Hi mate and welcome!
You've pretty much already identified the issues with deadening your strings.
You'll find that as you progress and your positioning improves your fingers will appear to have shrunk. Keep at it and before you know it you'll forget entirely about the size/shape of your fingers.

Hi Tom and welcome to the forum.
Ah the old fat fingertips problem raises it's head again. There have been a couple of threads here on that. Here they are if you want to have a read -

Sausage fingers, LOL
Actually if you do a search on fat fingers, you'll see a whole bunch of posts about the problems with fat fingertips and some good ways to overcome the problem.
Hope that helps.

Hi Tom, and welcome.
As bennett says, soon you won't even remember having this problem. You'll soon figure out a way to get a good clean sound ... just keep pluggin' away at it.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
