Hey everyone

Well I've been playing guitar for just 6 months now and I've been teaching myself.

My problem is that I'm not really making much progress at all. I can play some choruses and intro's to songs but never the whole thing.

so... i found this site and decided to join. It looks like it's helped other people. I played some bass in a band for a bit but we eventually gave up because we sucked. Bass is a lot easier IMO but I don't like it as much..

And if anyone's really interested my favorite bands are:
System of a Down
Avenged Sevenfold
Tool
Wolfmother
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Santana
Coheed and Cambria..
and a few others that I can't think of at this time.

Well I hope this place can speed up my learning..

  Hey!

PPE,

Welcome! You found a great spot to learn. Kirk is a superb player AND instructor. Also, you will find other folks on the forum that are quite accomplished but not just that, they all offer great advice and encouragement.

I am a member of a couple of other forums and they offer good advice and friendship, but these folks are uncommonly cool and caring. All of them!

Have a question? ask it and you'll get several different explanations. Got a problem? Ask about it or mention it. You'll be surprised at the words of advice and support!

So, welcome and prepare to learn and meet some great folks!

Andy S.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'll be sure to frequent this place and stay active. Lots of great material on here.

And for all of you who were wondering... Purple People Eaters was a nickname for the Minnesota Vikings defensive front four in the 1970's. There's a Vikings forum that I have over 5000 posts on and that's the screen name I use there. It just happened to stick with every forum I sign up at.

Also.. can anyone reccomend a good song to learn? I'm not exactly a beginner but I'm just not making much progress. Like my switching between chords is really slow and I can't solo to save my life.. Prefferably something metal. I'm really into hard rock and some of the softer metal (with less screaming and growling). Thanks a lot!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
