Another new guy and dragonforce!

Hi everyone. I am completely new to guitars but I know a bit about music through keyboard lessons awhile ago. I am wanting to start on an electric guitar. I checked out a few but I don't know all the guitar features lingo to get one. The type of music that inspired me to get one is the band Dragonforce. Now THAT is some skill. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for purchasing an electric guitar ($200-300) and necessary accessories for about that is good at what music I had in mind.

Hi shrink. So which kind of guitar does your favorite band guy play? A stratocaster style with single coils or a humbucker pickup rig? Is that 2-300 U.S. or some other currency?
What style of music do you primarily want to play?

I honestly don't know, what is the difference? I found a discription of one of the guitars they might or might not use. Ibanez S5407. Limited 1991 model S-Series 7 string, Herman's favourite 7 string guitar. Not sure if that is it so I have to look some more

By sound both guitars sound different but not by a lot. Here is a link to a site I found with some pics and music so that may answer your question. "Through fire and flame" at the 5 min mark is a Great section you have to check out!! $200-300 U.S. Dollars

Well, your pretty far away from his axe. 1000 bucks. It looks like they shred or are very fast players. I see a Jackson there so I would go with a Jackson if you can find one in your range or a dean. Go to Musicians Friend and see what they have. Sometimes they have pretty neat blowout sales. Go to a guitar store and play a couple of different guitars to get an idea of the difference between coils and hum-bucking pickups. It looks like he favours guitar that have a combo of both. Tell us what you find and I will dig up a review for you. Good luck.

Thanks, I feel like I am in a sea of knowledge unknown to me. I love it!! I love researching things to get good at it! Are jacksons known for being good at shredding and/or being expensive?

There is a Jackson Dinky in their photo gallery so you might want to check them out. Jacksons have long been associated with metal.

The quest for tone is endless. Pedals,fx,amps. Again price range? An amp and an overdrive or distortion pedal would be the basics for the type of music you want to play.

Endless huh? Well at least you gave me a starting point; amp, overdirve or distortion pedal. Now time to go research!

Not familiar with Dragonforce-but you could try starting your search here,
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitar/navigation?N=100001+306241&Ns=P_Price|0&page=6--the pages before and after this one are also good-you might want to consider the jacksons or the bc rich's-they are for people into the heavy metal genre. good luck-let us know what you choose-post some pics and WELCOME to the forum.

I was reading around and I heard that BC rich guitars were notorious for being poor.

What am I looking at price wise ofr what I need? I am looking for good stuff, I don't want bottom of the barrel stuff but I don't want too much that I don't need. What should I spend the most money on and what is that not necessary to spend a lot on?

By the looks of things, Sam and Herman are partial to Floyd Rose equipped shred guitars. I suggest a Jackson Dinky or an Ibanez RG to start from.

Amp wise, a Line 6 combo would probably serve you well in the early stages. The guys in the band play Laneys, but I assume those would be hard to come by over here.
