Hello from Scotland
Hi Everyone - Just joined and very impressed so far.
I'm an acoustic guitar and music theory teacher living and working near Glasgow, Scotland and my preferred styles include folk/ Celtic and Elizabethan arrangements. I hope to develop my online teaching skills by helping, if I can, any beginners with problems, questions, etc.
I'm also hoping to pick up some new knowledge and techniques in various styles in which my skills are sadly lacking. There seems to be a wealth of talent and knowledge here, and as it's freely offered, it would be crazy not to take advantage of it.
So, hello! - It's really nice to be here.

Welcome Fretsource, maybe you could play/post Midnight for us, as your midi file didn't work, for me anyway?

Hello and welcome. I also had a look at your website and really enjoyed your playing, particularly the quick sample of Sweet Georgia Brown. Thanks for joining.

What a warm and friendly welcome! Thanks everyone - Looks like I've come to the right place.
6String - sorry you couldn't open that midi file of 'Midnight' that you saw on my site. I wonder why? But you could get the sheet music and tab ok, right? Normally you have to double click on the midi icon and you get the usual be "careful of viruses" warning. then it opens in your media player. (Don't worry. It's clean, as I made it myself) I'll look further into it in case the problem is here.
Meanwhile, could I invite anyone else to try it and let me know if they can open it?
Midnight is a nice and easy, very short Elizabethan Lute piece arranged for guitar. I arranged it in standard notation plus tab plus a midi file that I made of it - as a guide.
It's all embedded in a PDF file, so almost everybody can open it and save it. If not you can easily get Adobe Reader from Adobe's website to open it.
If you'd like to try it, please do and I'd be grateful if you let me know if you have a similar problem to 6string who couldn't get the midi file to play, or otherwise. Anyway, the sheet music and tab alone are worth keeping (If, like me, you like that sort of music). Just go to:
http://www.fretsource.com/Informatio...0resources.htm
It's near the top of the page.
Thanks a lot!

That was a purty tune. Fun to play. Kush would like that one. As you can tell, I had no problem with the PDF.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Kush is having a problem too? I made the file on Adobe 5.0 - but my Adobe Reader is 7.0. How about going to
www.adobe.com
for a quick free download of their latest reader (7.0) and try again - and let me know. Failing that, if you like, I'll send you a midi file direct, or I might even get around to recording an audio file of it myself.
Also, are either of you using an older Mac? Apart from cases where Adobe was too old, the only time previously I heard of such a problem was apparantly because older Macs couldn't open embedded files from PDF documents - or something.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
