Hello!

Hi all,

I've just decided to take up the guitar - after quite a long time of thinking about doing it, now is the time to act!

I've been singing for the past 13 years or so, mostly in choirs, and thought I'd find an instrument to accompany myself with (and a piano was just too heavy to carry around! ) I used to play the violin and the viola, neither of which we too useful for singing with

Hi Greentea. With your experince with other stringed insruments, it sounds like you might take to the guitar quickly. Good luck.

Hi Kush, thanks for the welcome!

I'm not sure if the violin can be self-taught. I suppose, like most instruments, it probably can (I know my Dad taught himself the clarinet, which I would have thought HAD to be taught to you). All I know is that, initially, the learning curve is very steep. It's probably the sort of instrument that it's best to get some lessons at the start at least.

Hi GT

Thankyou so much for Caring . Actually I'm from India and that too from a very small town. Here there are no oppurtunities to learn a Western Instrument. Infact I'm teaching myself Guitar (Fingerstyle) for the past 5 Months, and its only because of this wonderful Family and all the help I get from the Internet. I dont think I can get any guidance in Violin too

But Anyways, I think I should concentrate on Guitar first, and get thorough understanding of Music, then maybe I cantry to learn other instruments too.
Thankyou so much for all the care and kindness, Buddy !!!! You're seem to be friendly and caring

Lots of Regards
Kush

Hi G.T. I remember back in the sixties a Cajun fiddle player made it big singing and playing simultaneously. He had his violin wedged against the crook of his elbow. I think most violin teachers would faint in horror at the sight of it.

Hi GT

Welcome to the forum. I played violin at school (a long long time ago). Wanted to try it again recently but my hubby got me a guitar instead (think he reckoned it was the lesser of two evils)

Good luck
Tracy

Welcome- I'm with you on the "piano too heavy to move around"- that's the reason I picked up guitar, too!
