Another newb here

My name is Pat, and I joined recently because this seems like a very good forum for beginners like myself. I am 31 and trying to teach myself to play. I currently have a SX Strat replica that I play (I use that term loosely) through my roommate's Fender Vibro Champ amp.

Hi Pat,

Great place to learn. Alot of experience installed in the forum to tap from... I have a SX aswell, a PRS custom replica, which I absolutely love. I play it most often even if it is my cheapest guitar.

Just remember stick with religious practice and you can become brilliant. Set your self goals (not too high, but not too low either...) and make sure you achieve all of them by practicing stuff that targets your deficiencies.

oh and before I forget. Write your goals down, and record yourself regularly. this will give you points of reference to work from to adjust your goals and it will not allow you to forget your goals.

Welcome to the forums Pat. As a beginner my self I have found this to be the best site for resources and, more importantly, for encouragement. Have fun.

Welcome Pat, I'm sure you will enjoy it here as there are many talented "cats" that can really jam in here. I for one am not one of them as I am a beginner like yourself.
I don't usually use the word "cat" to refer to a human being either, but there is a short story behind it. See, this weekend I spent quite a few hours at the Lousiana Museum of Natural History. There is this one section that is devoted to all the past great musicans from Louisiana and one in particular, (ya'll may have heard of him)....Louie Armstrong has an exhibit there. Anyway I was reading some of the letters he wrote home in the early days of his career while touring and he used the word "Cats" to refer to other musican friends of his. I don't know if he was the original "Cat" phrase creator but he used it a lot just the same. ANYway, I liked it so therefore I will now use it to categorize the talented musicans we have here at the forum.....assuming that is ok with them, if not just slap me and tell me to never call you that again. Just to let you know though, if you're referred to as a "cat", it is of the utmost respect for your ability to play

Congrats Pat, you are the recipient of the longest hello I have ever posted!

No thanks, I don't need my "playing" to be any louder than it already is
