Hello and advice please...
Hello. I've been playing guitar for about 2 months now. I have an acoustic guitar and have been learning using the Hal Leonard method book. I'm almost through volume 1. I have also been learning chords, and can play C, C7, G, G7, D, D7, Dm, E, Em, E7, B7, A, Am, A7 fairly well (working on transitions). I just got the F chord to play the other day (my fingers just wouldn't do it before) and have added it to my practice routines.
Advice Please! I'm ready to start playing some songs now. My goal for guitar is to be able to play along on church retreats in the fall for songs during worship. At this point I'm looking for a collection of easy guitar chord songs to start playing. They don't have to be "church" related (although I will want that later in the summer). Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Matt

Keep in mind that the F chord is a very tough one to master. It takes lots of time and practice to get it.

Take a look at this post - I'm not sure they are all easy but a lot of them are.

That's impressive! With that number of chords, there are already lots of songs you can play.
I like Guitar Tabs, Guitar Chords and Lyrics - Chordie for basic chords to songs, but it's free and not 100% accurate, let your ear be the judge. Some songs will make you learn, say, one extra chord (mainly 022033 whatever that is). That site has Hillsong-style stuff on it. Songs like "Lord I Lift Your Name on High" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul" (G, D, Em, C) are pretty easy. Some of the newer stuff is pretty fast though. Anyway, it doesn't have all the adds and junk that most of them do.
Invest in a capo for your camp. Someone is sure to ask you to play a bit higher for their singing, or to play something in F, and with a capo, that's no problem!

Thanks for the links. That Chordie site is great. Much easier to search and then organize selections than others I've found. I think I'm going to print myself out 5-10 songs and start working on those.
Thanks much!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
