15+yrs and still new

Hello everyone,
I've been playing for more than 15 years and still consider myself "new". I started playing while working as a cowboy for a couple ranches. In the evenings, the old guys would tell stories and pass around a guitar (& half gallon of whiskey). I was too young to have any stories so I taught myself a few chords on the guitar. The songs were all old western cowboy tunes (not "country music").
A couple years later, I moved to the Seattle area and found that city-slickers love those odd cowboy songs. I even played in a couple bars. I could fake it like a pro. The problem was; when the band would say "next song is in B", I didn't know what "B" was. I knew plenty of chords, just not what they were called. But I watched their hands and jumped right in. Around the campfire, nobody knew the difference, for sure.
This was how I played till last Christmas when we got a First Act electric & craigslist amp for our youngest son. Wow, what a blast but the guitar was total junk. I couldn't quit playing it (badly though). So, this last weekend, I found a Ibanez RG with a Floyd Rose set up.
My goal is to learn guitar theory, and how to solo. I've spent every free minute, since I got this thing, trying to learn the Stevie Ray Vaughn shuffle.
I hope to learn everything I can from this forum.
Chat more later....

Lots of info here, Cowchip. Welcome to the addiction we call guitar.

Man, I love this new guitar. I've been playing since I got off work (5 hours). I'm numb from the elbow down, otherwise, I'd still be playing. The SRV shuffle is going to make me crazy. It's ringing in my head but I can't consistently play it. Tomorrows another day.
Thanx everyone for the warm welcome

I, too , loved your intro. Welcome to the forum. It amazes me how people can just pick up and instrument and follow what others do. I need to read the instructions 20 times over and then try it!
