Hi Maria Jayne, nice to have you here.
Since you are a complete beginner, I suggest you start by reading through this here - Brand new to playing the guitar?...read this first.
When you've read through the main topics, you could start on this lesson for complete beginners - True beginner? Here's a lesson for you!
Then you could have a look at this topic - TAB and how it works
Then come back and ask any questions you need. No question is too dumb.

Hi Mary Jane
You've got the desire to learn the guitar and so you've already made a good step in the right direction.
Plus you've come to a very helpful site for learning the guitar.

Spot on, coldethyl, if you've got the passion, you can't help but get there.
Consider it a really neat puzzle ... the way music works and the way it lays itself on the fretboard. It is decodable, it does become a familiar environment to work in, it does become second nature. Keep working away at it and you will arrive. It just takes time.

Well, the a big part of it is to stick with it! Dont get frustrated right off, the more you pick up, the more enjoyable it gets, and you just get better and better.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
