Hello, brand new, but old

Hello to all. I am a brand new forum member and also new to guitar. But I am an old guy 55 I have decided to learn to play a bit. I have a peculiar problem...I jave NVLD(nonverbal learning disorder) Basically all this means is I don't see spatial patterns and designs like others. This becomes an issue with learning guitar...tabs are indecipherable...diagrams are not easily absorbed and the method of instruction I have been exposed to is difficult because it is seemingly random to me...that is it seems to start in the middle and jump around...Kirk's essay on "what is Music" is the first thing that remotely made sense to me...I am here hoping to pick up some info and hopefully become a decent player...if I ask questions that don't seem to make sense...its just my mind working in its different way...please indulge me.
Dave

Welcome to the forum.

But you've already made an error. Fifty-five is NOT OLD. That's the kind of mistake my daughter keeps making and I have to keep putting her straight too.

Don't worry if your questions don't make sense. Writing about music is like dancing about architecture anyway (thank you L Anderson, I think), just keep plugging away with questions until you understand.

Not much going on around here just now, but it is already tomorrow in Australia and they've been hard at it celebrating. Bring on your questions tomorrow.

Hi Fish78, Welcome to the forum, your problem shouldn't stop you learning guitar but I do understand that NVLD makes it harder, ask any questions you need to, the Members here will always try to help you out, not many problems go unsolved here.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
