Hello My Friends, Hello
Hello from a old newbie! Awhile (a long?) back I got a cheapie guitar for Christmas, got a song book and started to try chords, then work/family took over and I lost the urge. That was 10 yrs ago. About 2 yrs ago my nephew began to learn to play and I got the urge again. A few months ago I traded in my cheapie guitar for a better one, Alvarez RD8, and have started to struggle again, but keep pluggin away.
I came across this site looking for beginning lessons and thought I would give it a try. I am finding a lot of helpful posts. One of these days, it will all click. I wish I would have kept going the first time, but here I am again...
Great site!

Hi Old_Beginner, Thats similar to my story. Guitars, like motorcycles; you never lose the urge. Welcome to the forum, keep checking here and it will keep the urge alive. Only problem is you can spend more time here than twanging.
I wish I had kept at it about 40 years ago too, think where I'd be at now!

They are not all mine. There were a total of about 70 guitars at a jam weekend I was at last year. Next one is in Minnesota.

Great idea, with the following warning. It is not for beginners. You should know your bar chords, know your way around a couple of tunes and be more or less comfortable moving around the neck. The lessons here will get you to that point if you are not already there.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
