Welcome to our new moderator Ultimate Garage Band!
Well if you haven't seen it already, we have added a new forum - the " Guitar Tech" forum and we are lucky enough to get Ultimate Garage Band aka Glen Giles and aka UGB, to agree to moderate and share his knowledge in the new forum. He has already posted a series of FAQ topics in the forum, so do yourself a favour and check those out.
Glen also runs this site http://www.ninevehguitars.com and can offer great advice on guitars that would be suitable for beginners... but I'll let him tell you more about all that.
Anyway a big thank you to Ultimate Garage Band for agreeing to help out here on the forum.
Clancy

Welcome UGB. I have known Glen for a year or so and have been around for a lot of his guitar sales. You would be hard pressed to find someone who cares more for a new player getting his or her first guitar. The man knows his stuff. We are very lucky to have him. Thought I'd toot his horn. He's a modest fella.

Good on ya UGB!
It's gonna be great to have someone like yourself who will specialise in the more technical sides to the guitar.

Hey, thanks for the intro and welcome. I'm glad to be here.
I've been on the net in a number of guitar and/or music forums for about 5 years now I guess. I do have an internet based guitar shop and my target customer is the first time guitar player, however, I know nobody joins a forum to be solicited, at least I don't. I love people and guitar has been a great way for me to connect to people thorughout my life. Playing is fun, and it should be.
I've been playing electric guitar for almost 30 years and I've just started to seriously play acoustic within the past 2 years or so. I started out on bass in the 70's but dropped it for guitar within the first year and didn't pick it up again until 4 or 5 years ago for home recording projects.
I have a strong background in technology, in fact I have an MFA in Theater Technology as technical theater/eduaction was a former career of mine. After 10 years away from it, I found myself back in the classroom at the local university teaching Theater Appreciation last semester. It looks like I can teach 2 sections each Fall and Spring semester for as long as I want to. Being a part-time college professor is one of my jobs; here's some others.
Starting about a month ago I'm now teaching guitar. Currently I have 8 students. All I teach are first time players and it's been a great experience so far. Teaching is a natural for me, I've just never applied my skills to guitar before and I'm enjoying it almost as much as I enjoy seeing my students progress.
I'm a gigging musician. I have a solo acoustic act where I play acoustic guitar and sing for mostly restraunts but some clubs too. I'm also involved with another guy in an acoustic duo trying to play more clubs, parties, and weddings. I typically play out at least once a week. Because I don't teach at the university during the Summer, I'll have to up my gigging schedule to about 4-5 times a week for the Summer.
I've owned and operated Nineveh Guitars for a little over a year now. Within my business I only carry and offer products I'd use myself. For instance, I was a Washburn player for 14 years before I became a dealer. I was a Laney amp user for 3 years before I became a dealer, etc. Some of my guitar buddies get a tad frustrated that I only stock 'low end' or 'entry level' gear but the entire focus of my business is the first time player/purchaser. To that end, I special order gear for more advanced players on a regular basis. Being a new business, the expenses are higher and the profits are not all there yet, so it's not really 'making money' yet and that's why I have more pressure to earn it in other places.
I have 3 kids under 11 that keep me busy every day and I'm very active in our church from teaching adult Sunday school to playing bass/guitar/lead guitar in the church band.
Again, I'm really looking forward to helping where I can and learning things myself. The reason I've been a teacher most of my life is because I enjoy learning so much.

I'm on the map; look for me.
I live in the 'Entertainment Capital of the World' (that's a joke btw), Columbus, Georgia. I'm about 2 hours by car Southwest of Atlanta, Georgia.

Unfortunately for me, that's just a little out of my way. But if I'm ever in your part of the world I'll look out for your shop.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
