hi from england ^_^
hi im 26 and from england just starting out like 2 days ago, so far i have learnt some basic chords and have them memorised also i learnt scales but cant play them fast yet only slowly lol. i learnt the basics of standard notation and tabs but that also i cant read fast like working out every note i see on the stave takes me a little time but im getting there, putting up with the sore fingers etc.
im just wondering i get a little sidetracked with the abundance of lessons available does anyone have any tips how to structure some practice properly i find myself switching from chords to scales to strumming alot is that a good or bad thing should i just be practicing chord changes day in day out until i got it down im not sure
anyway thanks for this great forum and i look forward to getting to know some of you

Go through these mini lessons to make sure you have the basics down and then go through Kirk's beginner lessons, Nelsonites lessons and start working on basic music theory lessons too.

Welcome caspian,
I have attempted to learn things in some kind of rational order, but always end up going back to whatever I enjoy doing the most at the time, that of course is of no help to you.
Good Luck,
Skip

Two days.....Your doing well, i am only there after 18 months!!!!
I think at first its good to have a fun element, find a song that has two or three chords and work on that say like a horse with no name or something!!!
What chords can you play/learning? I will try and give you some pointers for cool easy songs for that WOW factor to have fun with.
Good luck

Hi Caspian, no harm in mixing things up in your practice but like Krissovo says, leave some time for just having fun. Welcome to the forum

thanks for the welcome guys so far i got in memory a am d dm e em c g just trying to increase chord changing speed, i found a really good way to see results changing from 2 specific chords as many times as i can in 1 minute, i do this with all of them and mix them up a bit and write my results down so i can actually see the improvement

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
