Time to Face The Music
Hey everyone...I believe that there's no sweeter sound than the sound of an acoustic guitar being played...(by someone that knows how).
A couple of years back I started taking guitar lessons. At the same time I discovered that a few of my 12-13 year old students were having lessons by my guitar teacher as well....
Often while I attempted to teach them art, we'd talk about how our guitar lessons were progressing...this was great, for about a few weeks...then my students started to advance in their guitar playing way faster than me... (it was at about this time that I started asking for 'silent painting' in class)...
Anyway, they seemed to get the hang of things easily, while I just struggled.
One of my resolutions for 2006 is to learn how to play, and not give up until I can impress people with at least one tune... (my friends are easily impressed, so I won't have to be that good!)
I love the Beatles and wonder if anyone can suggest any 'easy' tune to start with...
Cheers, and the best of luck with your learning...

 Good move.
Welcome to the forum Mystique, I think we can help you here to reach your goal.
You can find the beginners guitar lessons here - http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...splay.php?f=34 - There is a John Lennon song included there.
Also there is a finger-style lesson of yesterday here - Yesterday >> part 1
Hope that helps. Any other questions, just ask.
Cheers

Hi Mystique - glad you dropped by You just arrived at the world's most helpful and supportive guitar-players forum (IMHO, of course). Learning about the PT shapes before you get involved with too much theory could just be the shortcut to carefree enjoyment of playing guitar that you, and every beginner *should* get.
And there are so many helpful ppl around here and the PT forum - I wish I'd found this site years ago. Do yourself a favour and buy Kirk's book and DVD - they are invaluable.
<Kirk - that'll be a 10% finder's fee, thx -  )>
No kidding, Mystique - totally unsolicited!
Happy noodling ...

Hi Mystique. Just a tip about Plane Talk. It is best to have your chords more or less down including bar chords. Be able to play a couple of tunes and feel comfortable moving around the fret board a bit. P.T. is great, but you need to have your basics well in hand or you may get frustrated with it. If the above holds true for you then go for it,if not, then take your time here and learn what you need to first.

Yesterday is a pretty easy Beatles song to learn to play.
An ambassador for Christ - David Tannen
John 14:21 "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

Norwegian Wood is pretty easy. Without getting into fancy chords., you can get by with D, C, G, D. (2x) Chorus is: Dm, G, Dm, Em (or Em7) and A. Oh, yeah, you want to have Capo on 2nd fret.

i would like to suggest you a song here, try KIRK'S ARRANGEMENT OF "UNCHAINED MELODY", its really beautiful to listen to and to play. As far as i remember even Mr.Kirk loves to play it, (as he says in the lesson)

Yay! A Beatles fan! I learned all of my basic chords, strumming, keeping rythem etc by playing two books of Beatle songs. There was enough material to keep me from getting bored, I was familier with all of the songs, and there was a wide variety of degree of difficulty to keep me challanged....that was a long, long time ago

Thank you for your replies. They are much appreciated. I guess, as allthumbs suggested, I really need to start at the basics and work from there... 'Easy' is such a relative term, and what might seem like a simple tune to some, is in fact difficult for others. Thanks for all your suggestions, I'll certainly keep them in mind.
(Glad to read that you are also a Beatles fan PickNGrin)
Cheers,
~Mystique

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
