Mid Life Crisis in Montana

As my requisite mid life crisis approached a couple of years ago, I bought a guitar instead of a gold chain or sports car. The progress has been slow as I've had no previous musical training, but I'm slowly slogging through it. It's a relaxing distraction from a stressful job.

I probably started with the most difficult technique first: fingerpicking!!! I have gotten to a point where I can do a lot of songs if I have a tab; otherwise I'm lost. There is not much tab out there for the two performers that probably inspired me the most to play the guitar: John Prine and Townes van Zandt.

I'm hoping to pick up some related tricks for those guys and meet some fellow fans in this forum.

Best regards!

Welcome Montana,

I think you'll find you're one of many John Prine fans here on the forum... have you seen this lesson yet? http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...la-john-prine/

Also, check out the recordings other members here have done of John Prine tunes - http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/fo...earchid=416804

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
