guild
i did a little research and i think it is a guild f30 nt from 1967. i cannot play it well, but a friend who has played guitar for awhile made it sing nicely. the g chord is a pain in the pinky; it's going to take some practice to make it feel natural. have a good night, dream happy
rock on!
much love...

Very cool. Your lucky it is playable if it has been sitting for a long time.

Hey Chase it sounds like a pretty cool guitar. My advice would be to take it to a reliable guitar technician and have it set up to your specs.

Hiya
Hiya Chase,
I am another newcomer to the guitar. A nice huddle of us gathering here it seems! I only started a week ago. It's hard work, and our guitar-idols have been making it look easier than seems natural. I think that we should keep going through the beginning days when lots of stuff seems impossible (I have already experienced the first disheartenment), as from my other learning-experiences in life,I've learned that all things get easy with practice, passion and dedication. And we can share our proud and difficult times here together.
Anyhow, hello to everyone else registered here. This seems a very friendly place, and I look forward to making new, like-minded mates.
Thanks for having me,
Lee
Oh yeah.........I'm off for one of Kirk's lessons now. Wish me luck!

ah, the beginning of the finger fun. at this point i would describe the feeling as that when a leg falls asleep and then starts to wake up again - that prickly stingy feeling. i'm not sure what you meant by having the guitar set up to my specifications, coldethyl, but i do hope to take the guitar by a shop to be looked at. i don't want to hurt it since it's my late grandfather's guitar, and i'd like it to be playable for years to come. if anyone wants to plug for a southeast florida guitar shop, now would be a great time! i love the way it feels to play, even if my fingers sometimes won't get out of my way! chords, chords, chords...

chase,
Welcome to a real guitar forum. and the folks are real too!
If you found a '67 Guild F30 under a pile a rags, you are fortunate indeed. Do not hesitate to have it assessed. That is an excellent guitar.
I own two Guilds ... a '74 D25/6 Mahogany and a '76 F212SB. I've owned them since new and you can not find a more reliable instrument. Of course I'm biased .

it's all real, and it's all happening baby! i feel equally fortunate to have found a good place to begin learning how to play it. i definitely want to have it looked at by someone who knows their stuff, i'm just fishing around to find where that someone might be down here. glad to hear you've been at the guitar for so many years, that really rocks! i think the strings i put on it were the same vintage (har har har). she has a few dings and what not but we'll see how it goes les. thanks for the encouragement
rock on!
much love...

the pinky is getting better already. i also experimented with using my ring finger instead of the pinky and shifting the other fingers accordingly. it felt better, but does anyone see a reason to avoid this sort of method for playing the g chord?

some times when u use the g cord u need to hit both the first and second strings, depending on what ur playing, so its a good idea to get used to using the pinky
