new at it and just saying hi to all

hey guys and gals , my name is joe and ive been at it for about 8 weeks. injured my index and middle finger on the fret hand about a year ago.I make cabinets and table saws are great at removing fingers.I did damage but still got em ,so i figured leaning guitar would be great therapy ,ha ha ha son of a bee it hurts

Well ive been all over the internet and learning as i go.Theres so much out there its scary so all you pples just starting, hang in there. I'm starting to realize that to even play a simple song will take months......Not days or weeks but im getting there,so like i said hang in there It is FUN.

Want advice well i dont have much under my belt but go easy on the strings. I'm learning that one very slowly, and the easier you are the less pain.I wish the two week rule was ok for me, but i guess my fingers are a bit sensitive so go easy and try ur damest to loose that (im arnold grip ok ) and if anyone else has advice on the (grip thing) PLEASE send it to me, im hurting over here.

anyways everyone great to be here and i hope i can tuff it out and become a player of some sort
great sight!!! thanks joe

Hi joehere1. Welcome. So are your fingers going to heal in time or is it permenent? You have the right idea slow and steady. Twanging is a life time thing,no rush.

anyways il stick it out and hopefully find a happy medium of good sound and light touch

If worse comes to worse you could always switch to slide playing. Kirk will have his slide DVD out soon so you could do as much or little fretting as you felt comfortable with and slide the rest.

Its a brass or glass slide that fits around your little finger or ring finger? (allthumbs?)
You slide it on the fretboard of your guitar while picking or strumming the strings. Anyway Kirk will know more about this..(duh!) Welcome by the way Joehere1!

Kirk and I both have a slide tune or two in the recording lounge if you care to listen to some.

Joe,
Don't know if you're familiar with the famous swing guitarist Django Reinhardt but after he was injured in a fire the 3rd and 4th fingers on his fretting hand became virtually redundant. He rebuilt his technique after this and went on to become one of the world's most influential guitarists and was still capapble of playing blindingly fast, especially those chromatic runs he would often play.
