ok I am new

I am 45 years old ,I keep hearing its never to late to learn,Ive been a paramedic for 19 years.
I got an Ibanez acoustic /electric for my birthday ,It sat in a box 2 weeks before I even got it out.
Well 2 days ago I purchased a korg electronic tuner,I sat down last night and thought everything was going fine.
When I was all done I could tell that something went wrong.

The guitar sounded bad,real bad.
I didnt understand this because I followed the directions and I plucked the string and kept turning the tuning key and finally after about 40 minutes all strings that I plucked would make the needle go straight up and the light would be green, but yet the guitar is still way out of tune.

Well thats my story..Im trying,Thought I might try a good forum to have good people help me out while I learn this instrument.

Thanks

Sometimes those tuners can be tricky. Try using the online tuner at the top of the page and go through the mini lesson on tuning in this link.Brand new to playing the guitar?...read this first.

Hi Aunkster. Perhaps you've tuned the strings to the correct notes but in different octaves?

Welcome aboard, Aunkster. Yep, you heard right - it's never too late to start!

As far as tuning - you might want to try the Online Tuner that Kirk has so graciously included here to get you in the ballpark - then check out X4StringDrive's lesson on The Basics of Using a Tuner. Those should get you up and running!
