Newbie
Hey guys and gals I just got my guitar and im looking to learn some new things well acctually everything is new to me. Basically ive never played an instrument before and and i cant carry a tune. So this will be pretty fun for me. I have a first question when you play a chord say a B Major do you strum all 6 strings or just the 4 coverd by your fingers and that goes for all of them is it just whats coverd or is the chord the entire 6 string combo?
If at first you dont suceed you should probably just give up and pay someone to do it.

Hi joe and welcome. Sometimes you do play all 6 strings (e.g. E Maj) and sometimes you don't (e.g. A Maj you only play 5 strings). Best to refer to a chord chart. You can read more about chords here - http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/chords.html
PS Don't worry about B Maj for now. That, along with F, is one of the toughest chords to learn.

Welcome. Google guitar chords and you'll find tons of sites with diagrams.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
