I just got an Ovation CC28-HBY and plan on playing it tommorow when i get some picks and a case

I am kind of confused on how the whole playing works
Like is the strumming the beat and the notes are with ur other hand and how do u make the actual notes like i understand chords but notes is just one finger on a certain fret and string?
