Hi

Hi everyone. I am a brand new guitar player. I am 46 and I know I am starting a bit late in life but the Guitar is something I always wanted to learn to play. I reciently bought an Ibanez Jam Pack. First off I found that the included tuner is junk it works but for a newbie it is a pain. So I bought an Intelli IMT-500 and it really makes tuning a breeze. I am not in a position to be able to take lessions just yet but plan to in the very near future. So I am taking some online lessons. I know that being a total newbie I am going to have a bit of a hard time but that is not a worry for me. I am learning the C major and D major cords right now. I am taking it slow and just trying to get my fingers to work. I find it hard to get my fingers to to hit the strings right and I have no finger strength yet to hold the strings down. Also getting them into the proper position to form the cord is a pain right now as my fingers don't want to work that way. Also I know that I am going to experience some finger pain and in fact I am. My finger tips are a bit sore and to me it feels good as I know I am doing something I have wanted for a long time. I just wanted to say hi but got a bit long winded sorry. Any advice is alway appreciated.

Welcome bobw,
Hang around here and you'll learn a lot, I only started 6 months ago and I'm many, many, many years older than you, so to me you're just a youngster, the guitar has really been a blessing to me, I'm glad I finally got through the extremely sore finger tips, I was beginning to think I was different and the pain would never stop but it did just like everyone said it would.
Good Luck,
Skip

Welcome to the boards bobw. I am just a little ahead of you, but not by much. Same age though. Keep practicing and have fun with it.
Good luck

Talkin about sore fingers. I just got done practicing still working to get the 2 cords I mentioned down to the point where I don't have to look at the tabs to position my fingers every time. I am getting there though. I have foung that after about 10 min. my finger tips are so sore I can't continue. I am attempting to add 5 min to my practice time every time. But OUCH. I love it hehe
