Hey folks!
Hi Guys,
Another guitar beginner here - got a Jim Deacon strat and an old acoustic - had them both cleaned up, restrung and tuned up, and I've been playing 1-2 hours a day for the last fortnight. Progress hasn't been as quick as I hoped, it's a lot harder than it looks!!!
Still, I guess perseverance will eventually pay off ... won't it?!?
Glad to be here,
Saltire.

It definitely will, Saltire, glad to meet you, and yes, I have been trying to play about 2 hours a day as well. When you get called 'obsessive' you just know you're on the right track - my guitar teacher pointed out that that means I'm really practising! I've only had my guitar a few months, and while I can't compete with most hard cores, I'm at least able to keep a fairly steady rhythm and I've learned LOTS of chords - if I can tackle the Barre chords next, I'll be set! I even just learned the intro to Sweet Child of Mine, and it's cool to kinda paradiddle that off in the background, and watch the heads of your friends, bent in conversation, suddenly come up around you, saying, "hey, is that...?" YEP! LOL
Keep at it!

Hi Saltire and welcome to the forum. Yep, patience, perseverance and practice are the big three "P's". But you have come to a great site for instruction and encouragement, so enjoy.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
