NO,NO,NO, Don't give up.
The fingers will hurt, alot, but only for a few weeks if you keep practicing.
Guitar is not something you will learn overnight. it takes some time. With practice you should be able to play some simple songs within a month and just get better and better from there.

Hi luzer545 don't despair. I'm a beginner as well, so can't give you much advice, but you have found the right place at this forum. Stick around and I'm sure somebody will come to your rescue. Hang in there!

Take your time. Maybe play for 1/2 hour or less to start with. It is going to be a while before those calluses build up. Same thing as when you start digging with a shovel. Lots of blisters till the hands toughen up.Stop before you get to the blister stage in your guitar playing though. Hang in there and it will pass.

Guys as Missileman says the answer is not to stop but to keep going. Regular playing will toughen up the fingertips on your fretting hand causing calluses to form and reducing pain experienced there. Rubbing your fingertips up and down the thickest guitar strings will help the calluses form quicker (only for a few seconds at a time, though). Also try some simple stretching exercises before each playing session and take a rest every half hour or so.

Stop getting angry. This stuff takes time. Enjoy what your doing,if it's not fun,you won't stick with it. Work your way through the beginners lessons in the directory at the top of the page with the arrow. A good foundation is going to last you a life time. Do Nelsonites strumming lessons. The more relaxed you are the better you will play so just take a couple of deep breaths and mellow.

Start by reading this post and follow the links.
Brand new to playing the guitar?...read this first.
When you have questions come back and ask.
Unless you are a prodigy I am sorry but there is no such thing as quick and easy. It will take work and time.
I know alot of fairly new players that finally got started late in life after they gave up, mostly do to impatience, when they where young and without fail they all say the same thing, " I wish I had stuck with it way back then, just imagine how good I would be now"
You have the opportunity to be a great player in a few years if you stick with the boring things you must learn first.
Best Luck

Jim

Whatever you do, DON'T give up. You won't be a rock star in a week but you can learn a lot in a short time if you set an good practice routine for yourself.
Your best bet is to find an instructor who will show you the path.
A little bit of structured learning can be invaluable to the rank beginner.
I felt exactly like you do now....only it was in 1966!
Welcome to the asylum, pull up a rock and play!
Dan

I've been playing for 2.5 years now and still get annoyed at some the things I can't do. But, as allthums said, you're only likely to improve if you're enjoying it first. One way to do both is to choose a simple sounding song by one of your favourite bands and learn it piece by piece.

I am not sure what you are asking. Are you talking about the lessons here or the 2 lessons you bought on line?
