First of all hello to everyone. My name is Stu and I'm active military. I wanna start playing guitar for the next deployment. I'm looking to buy the Ibanez AEG10NEBKF(black one). Is that a good guitar for the beginner. On the comparison at musiciansfriend.com it said it's solid top, side and back but same model different colors are laminated. Is that a correct specs? Thx in advance.

Hi Stu. I've looked it up on a few different sites and they all list it as having a spruce top but not a solid spruce top so I'd say it's a laminate top guitar. It's a classical guitar but is built with a narrower neck which should help if you are just beginning. It's obviously built with fingerstyle in mind, is this what you want to play? Many people don't like nylon string guitars when strumming so bear that in mind.
Bottom line is if you have played it and compared to other guitars in the same range and like it the best then go for it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I read the guide for the beginner on the top of the forum and it said nylon strings are better for the beginner. I'll like to play more of the rock type music. Is there any other better guiters that I can use for same price range around $300? Thanks again.

Nylon is not considered a rock and roll guitar. The finger pain thing with steel strings is over rated. A month or so and your fingers will toughen up.
Considering that you are going somewhere probably very hot and dry, you would want to take a pretty rugged guitar. A Norman B20 is a tough beast though it might be hard to find. You actually might be better off with a laminate which would be sturdier. An Oscar Schmitt would also fit the bill.

I end up getting Ephiphone Masterbilt dr500m for $370 at Guitar Center. Is it a good deal? What's the best way to take care of solid guitar in dry desert weather? Thanks again.

Hello Stu.
I'd say that $370 is a fair price for that guitar...especially if it came with a case. Did you get it new or used? I have a Masterbilt AJ500R and absolutely love it.

I got it new from Guitar Center. They said they were having onsale. I'm pretty happy with the guitar, the only thing is it might not be reliable once I get to the desert. Thanks for the replies.

it gets very good reviews. There is a lengthy post here somewhere on properly humidifying your guitar. This is the thread. It has links to all you could want to know on this subject. Stay safe over there.
