Well, I finally did it.

I had been thinking off and on for years how much fun it would be to be able to play a guitar, but never really thought I could do it, I guess.

Apparently, my body was invaded by some spirit last week because something in me just snapped and I finally bought myself a guitar for my 39th birthday. I went to the local Guitar Center and just told the dude the facts. "I've held a guitar maybe 5 times in my life....I don't know if I can do it, but I wanna give it a try." He was quite cool and told me they had a 30 day return policy, so if I decided it wasn't for me I could bring it back. Sold.

Despite the excitement, I didn't want to drop a bundle on the first one so I picked up a Strat Pack to get me started. After only three days, I can honestly say this guitar won't be going back. My fingertips hurt like hell, I can barely change from one chord to another (when I can do it at all), it took me 30 minutes to be able to play the riff from Smoke On The Water, and I love every minute of it.

Anyway, I don't want to write an essay as a first post, so I'll just say Hi, thanks for all the great information and I'm looking forward to milking you experienced players dry of information.

Welcome and congrats, Volfan - 'atta way to jump into it! Keep on practicing, the ouchie fingertips go away in a couple weeks as you build up calluses. Sounds like you're off to a great start. Enjoy!

This is a very special time for you. Memories are being made that will be remembered later when you recall these begginnings.
