Question Am I On The Right Track????

heeey..am i on the right track??? here's my story so far:

-i bought some books (Fast Track for guitar) & this chord dictionary book
-i went through the Fast Track for guitar book..
-i know all the notes on the guitar i think..
-i know the chords that i learnt in the Fast Track book & i know a few from the chord dictionary book (i know G,C,D,Em,Dm,A,Am,A7,Af,Afm,Af7)..
-i looked up some song tabs & i sorta browsed them & tryed 2 play a few of the songs/intros of the songs..
-i looked up some song chords like for ex. Johnny Cash-Ring Of Fire..then i downloaded the song & play the chords along 2 it..
-every once in a while i do some strengthening exercises & stuff..
-now im just workin on learning some more chords..
------------------------------------------------------
am i on the right track??should i work on learning more chords now???what have i got left 2 learn after the chords??i know i have a lot more chords 2 learn & all..but just wundering what's next..

You are on the right track as long as you are constantly learning. You need to learn bar chords, inversions and extentions. It really is a life time effort. You can look at song construction, practical theory and lead playing and on and on. What is a Af btw. Do you mean an Ab =A flat.

Har. Not as bad as it sounds. Extentions are notes added onto a chord to change its' flavour like 9th chords or 11ths or 13ths. The two chords that would come in handy are two passing chords, augmented and diminished chords. They can jazz up a simple tune nicely.
Inversions are not too hard to grasp. As you remember from Kirks' lessons, basic chords are made up of the 135 intervals. Inversions are just playing the chord with the number other than the root or 1 in the bass. ie. 315 or 531 for instance. Very handy when your writing a tune and you want to finger pick the bass line in a certain way. Lead equals solos and practical theory is what chord would sound good next instead of "the proper name for this chord is A#dim7 +9" or other alphabet soup.lol

Welcome,
I practiced C,A,G,E,D and with minors C,Am,G,Em,Dm and threw in mini barre F as well and just went through them for a long time. I did find that once I could change chords fairly well and could play a few strumming patterns that the best way to learn chords was one at a time as needed for whatever song I was working on at the time.
Now, a little over a year later, I have quite an arsonal of chords and fully understand chord structure.
Take it a little at a time and you will get there.
