By way of introduction ...

Hi all. Its great to finally find a forum whose members are so active! I joined in the debate surrounding 'tab' and was pleasantly surprised by the immediate feedback. So, by way of introduction:

I'm 49, recently moved to the sunny Queensland coast here in Australia and I've been playing about 2 years <teacher's note - could do better, see me after school!>. My musical tastes didn't really progress much for a long time ... I got stuck with Santana and Pink Floyd (they're still favourites, of course) but now I'm trying to listen to other music and broaden my horizons.

Right now I'm feeling a little stuck in that progress isn't as fast as I think it should be - probably because of lack of direction in practice rather than lack of practice per se. This site, with its forums and video lessons will I'm sure add another valuable piece to the exciting guitar-playing jigsaw puzzle. I'm studying theory, too - that I find this extremely interesting may give you some insight into my character

Also trying to get to grips with home recording, so anyone with a similar interest, especially if you actually know what you're doing, please feel free to respond!

Also, if you live anywhere near Southport and want to meet to fumble around on guitar, please let me know.

OK, that's more than enough for now ... thx for reading. Looking forward to getting to know you guys better!

Well I wouldn't really say I know what I am doing, half the time anyway, but I will respond anyway just to say.
Hello and welcome aboard.

Hi Ian. Home recording can be pretty simple with all the free software out there. Multi studio and Audacity are quite popular.

Thanks, guys. Allthumbs, I have audacity - amazingly good for a freebie. Other equipment is a podXT, a Yamaha keyboard, a Marshall practice amp and of course my guitar (PRS Santana). Now, the difficulty for me comes in the cabling, setup (MIDI, USB etc) and then juggling the guitar, podXT and sequencer software settings to get a decent sound recorded. Still trying to figure all that out, but I'll post all that in a different forum.

Cheers

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
