Beginner from the UK

Hello all,
My names Rob and have just started out playing, my wife bought me a guitar for my 44th birthday after many years of putting wanting to learn off , this looks a great site for learning and im looking forward to getting stuck in. Ive got an electric guitar which is probably the wrong one to start on but ive learnt a few chords and things and really enjoy it.
Anyway hope to get to know some of you better

Rob

An electrics fine to learn on. When or if you switch to acoustic, you will find your fingers will have to toughen up more to handle the thicker strings.

Welcome Rob. You'll find much to learn here on Kirk's web site. Set yourself realistic goals say 2 to 3 years to master chords. And learn to find melodies on the strings as well. Enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome , ive only been 'playing ' a couple of days and the tops of my fingers are stinging but i find it relaxing to shut myself away for an hour or so a day and strum away. Ive just been sampling the video tutorials on here and Kirk seems to lay it all out, in a nice and easy way for beginners to grasp.

Hi Rob,

The very best of luck to you! Try soaking your finger ends in warm salt water or meths - that should help toughen them up.

All the best,

Nick.

Hi Bobcat, give it a few weeks and your fingertips will be as hard as nails, the pain is worth it.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
