Hello everyone..Just bought my guitar!

Hello! My name is Brooke and I'm 21... I just bought my first guitar a few days ago, I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail, I should have it by Friday. I've never played the guitar before, but I am looking for something new to do in my free time and I love the sound of it! I'm really excited to learn, I just have no idea where to start. If anyone has any pointers please feel free to contact me! I can't decide what is more important... learning chords or learning how to read the music?

Hi Brooke. In the first few weeks I'd suggest just trying to get the basics correct. After you feel a bit more comfortable then look towards learning to read. Whatever you choose to do we should have information here you find useful.

G'day Brooke, welcome to GFB&B

check this, thats Fretsources standard notation lesson... That'll help ya with reading music..

Here is a link to part one of Kirks Tab lessons.... The place most beginners start off at by learning tab rather than standard notation...

And of course.... ask and you shall receive... well information wise anyway....

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
